By all accounts WMAHA hosted another successful tournament with good parity. Nice job pulling it together tournament director Nicole Mannek, assisted by Dawn and Darin Peck.
All three Jr. Grizzlies Select teams made it to the championship. Way to work boys!

The Jr. Grizzlies Squirt Select team started the tournament off with a disappointing 4-3 loss to the County Lightning. The Lightning got off to a quick start scoring a couple goals early. The Jr. Grizz went on to control most of the game, however, there simply wasn't enough time on the clock to make up the deficit.
The Jr. Grizz then faced the Las Vegas Storm where they out hustled a very disciplined and well-coached team, beating them 4-1.
The next opponent was the Park City Miners. Jr. Grizzlies game MVP Titan Anderson had a great game along with the rest of the defensive squad. The Jr. Grizzlies beat the Miners 4-2.
The Championship game came down to the Lightning vs the Jr. Grizzlies. Just like the first match up the Lightning came out fast and furious. They put up 3 goals in the first 2 periods putting the Jr. Grizz on their heels.
In the third period the Jr. Grizz came out battling. Defenseman #49 Christopher Curtis took the puck coast to coast to score to get the Selects on the board. With 4:12 on the clock the Jr. Grizz took a penalty leaving the boys short-handed. Captain #11 Jett Arminen was able to get a break away and rushed to the net, despite being hooked by the trailing defenseman he was able to bury the puck, score 3-2.
Still short handed but riding a change in momentum, #99 Will Rutter was able to get another goal to tie it up 3-3 sending it into overtime.
Early in the OT, the Lightning were charged with a penalty making for a 4 on 3 Jr. Grizzlies power play. Head Coach Darin Peck drew up a plan…”I told the boys they needed to win the face off and be patient…draw the defensemen to you and look for a centering pass”. Well that’s exactly what the boys did. #99 Will Rutter centered the puck to #79 Ethan Doney who slammed home the game winner.
Congratulations Squirt A Grizz Cup Champions!
